Lava Butte

JUNE: 5th -7th (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) Lava Butte
Trip Leader: Matt Skeels.
Located East of Saddle Butte near Bogus Creek, this is one
of the last unexplored areas in Oregon with a high potential
for lots of caves. This is a very remote area where you will
need to be fully self contained as far as camping, water,
and everything you need for three days. There will be about
a two mile hike to the cave area from the road and then lots
of walking to locate caves. Matt has leads but only one or
two known caves. Super great potential for new finds.

Gear list: Helmet, 3 light sources, cave pack, gloves, knee
pads, camping gear, food and water for 3 days, vertical
gear.

see.

Malheur Cave

JULY: 11th - 12th (Saturday & Sunday) Malheur Cave
Trip leader: Brent McGregor
This cave has roughly 2,000' of lake pasaage! (This will
vary greatly year to year and month of year visited).

There is nothing else like it in Oregon. Malheur is a
favorite of several grotto members. Bring your non-
motorized boat or raft or paddle board and your vertical
gear if you want to see the upper tube. Your ascent will
start from your canoe! Camping allowed in the cave or camp
next to your car just outside the entrance. This is a very
fun trip.

Gear list: Car or tent camping. Bring everything you need
for two days, food and water. Helmet, 3 sources of light,
cave pack, gloves, vertical gear if you want to climb to the
upper tube, canoe, kayak or raft if you can.

2015 NSS Convention

What's the first rule for caving in the state of Missouri? --DON'T PANIC!

The second rule is, always bring a towel.

The theme for the 2015 NSS Convention is: A Hitchhiker's Guide to Missouri Caving. Whether you're from nearby St. Louis, flying in from Australia, or transporting from a far off galaxy, the 72nd annual NSS Convention promises to be one cavers will remember long after the mud is toweled away.

The 2015 NSS Convention will take place July 13-17 in Waynesville, located in picturesque Pulaski County Missouri, about a two-hour drive southwest of St. Louis. We're confident that cavers from across the country will take advantage of the convenient, centralized location and come enjoy caving, camaraderie, and the natural beauty to be found in the Missouri Ozarks. See more at link.

NCA Regional

July 24th-26th (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) NCA Regional
Event organizer: Neil Marchington.
We will camp at Sundance Meadows Ranch in Bend. This is a
grotto volunteer effort requiring several jobs to fill.
Neil will be sending out more information and may be
contacting you directly asking for help with such jobs as
leading trips, cooking meals, creating T shirts or patches,
presentations, assisting Matt with a guide book and more.
Regionals have always been a great success in the past and
are a great place to meet new cavers.

Gear list: This is a special event that will require lots of
different things which we will cover later. You will of
course need your regular caving gear to attend the trips.

Pronghord Cave

September 12th (Saturday) Pronghorn Cave
Trip Leader: Matt Skeels
This trip will take place if Matt can get permission from

Incredible ceiling drips and very nice water drop
formations in the sandy floor. .

tubes are available to explore. This is a traditional camp
out for the grotto, close to Bend, a great camp site, and
lots fun.

Gear list: Everything you need for 3 days of car or tent
camping. Helmet, 3 light sources, cave pack, gloves,
possible vertical gear depending on caves visited.

Molalla Deep

October TBA Molalla Deep (If we get permission from
landowner)
Trip leaders: Jerry Zimmer and Mike Loomis
This rare and unusual cave is said to be a block creep or
slump cave. According to Mike Loomis (1988 cave trip), the
cave drops down mud hardened walls to a water source that
appears to have no bottom. The passage way narrows to a V
shaped passage making progress difficult even though the
cave appears to continue on. In short, we need to get back
into this cave and further explore it!

Gear list: helmet, 3 light sources, cave pack, gloves,
vertical gear. Wet suit and or a small raft would be useful
(Neil).
